East coast of Ibiza
Ibara — Local Guide

An Ibiza you might
not know yet.

The Ibiza of fig trees, fishing villages, quiet coves, and slow afternoons. Our edit of the corners worth knowing.

The eastern
coast is
different.

"On this side of the island, the water is clear, the beaches are quieter, and nobody is in a rush."

Ibara sits on the east coast of Ibiza — the calmer side. Within walking distance you have two of the island's best beaches, and within twenty minutes by car, several more that most visitors never find.

Cala Nova

Cala Nova

Fifteen minutes on foot from Ibara — one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. A wide, crescent-shaped bay with fine sand and shallow turquoise water. It gets busy in July and August, but arrive early and you'll have it mostly to yourself. The chiringuito at the far end serves good cold beer and fresh fish.

In spring and September, it's almost deserted. One of those beaches that makes you forget time.

Hippie Market of Es Canar
02 — The Hippie Market

El Mercadillo
de Es Canar

One of the oldest and most beloved traditions on the island. Since the 1970s, the hippie market of Es Canar has been gathering artisans, jewellers, textile makers, and wanderers every Wednesday and Saturday morning right here — on the stretch of pine-shaded ground a two-minute walk from Ibara.

It's colourful, unhurried, full of handmade things you won't find anywhere else. Worth going at least once. Go early, before the heat.

the interior.

Santa Gertrudis, Ibiza

Twenty minutes inland and you're in a completely different Ibiza. Whitewashed villages, old fincas, orange trees. The island's food culture lives here, away from the coast.

Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera

The most charming village square on the island. A handful of excellent restaurants, a beautiful old church, and the kind of slow Sunday afternoon energy that makes you never want to leave. Try Bar Costa for tapas and a glass of something cold.

20 min by car

San Carlos

A small, peaceful village with a very good restaurant scene and a strong connection to the island's alternative history. Anita's Bar — still family-run — has been here since the seventies. Also home to Las Dalias, one of the most popular hippie markets on the island, held on Saturdays. Worth the short drive just for that.

15 min by car

Santa Eulalia del Río

The nearest town. A lively, genuine promenade along the river — the only river in the Balearic Islands. Good for a morning coffee, a fish lunch, or an evening walk. Ten minutes by car or a lovely bike ride along the coast.

When you're ready to venture beyond the east coast. These are the day trips we tell every guest about — all within easy reach, all worth it.

Formentera
The classic day trip
Formentera —
go at least once.

Formentera

The small island south of Ibiza, accessible by ferry from Ibiza port in around 40 minutes. Arguably the most beautiful water in the Mediterranean — flat, impossibly clear, turquoise. Rent a bike and cross the island for lunch at one of the beach restaurants along the Ses Illetes strip. A full day, easily. Book your crossing with Trasmapi and use code 26IBARA for a discount.

Dalt Vila,
Ibiza Town

The UNESCO-listed old town of Ibiza — a walled citadel built by the Habsburgs in the 16th century, perched on a hill above the harbour. Walk up in the late afternoon, explore the cobblestone alleys, find a table on one of the terraces with a view over the marina. Stay for dinner, drive back in the dark.
